What is a Narcissistic?

Are you dealing with someone who has narcissistic behaviors, or are they just distracted? What are the red flags of narcissistic behavior? Narcissists use their relationships to feel good about themselves. They will constantly make you feed their fragile ego. The word “narcissist” is one of those tricky terms narcissistic personality disorder is a mental health condition in which people have an unreasonably high sense of their own importance. People who show signs of narcissism can often be very charming and charismatic. They often don’t show negative behavior right away, especially in relationships. People who show narcissism often like to surround themselves with people who feed into their ego. They build relationships to reinforce their ideas about themselves, even if these relationships are superficial.

What is a Narcissistic??

Narcissism is extreme self-involvement to the degree that it makes a person ignore the needs of those around them. While everyone may show occasional narcissistic behavior, true narcissists frequently disregard others or their feelings. They also do not understand the effect that their behavior has on other people. Narcissists find it difficult to build or maintain connections with others because of their manipulative tendencies and lack of empathy. They often feel entitled and lack compassion, yet crave attention and admiration. There are many different views regarding causes and treatments. Classic signs of a narcissist can have profound negative effects on the mental health of friends, family members, and coworkers.

What signs are the sign out Narcissist person?

Narcissism is extreme self-involvement to the degree that it makes a person ignore the needs of those around them. While everyone may show occasional narcissistic behavior, true narcissists frequently disregard others or their feelings. They also do not understand the effect that their behavior has on other people. Here are some signs  you are dealing with a narcissist

Perfectionism

You can spot a narcissist through their extremely high need for everything to be perfect. They believe they should be perfect, you should be perfect, events should happen exactly as expected, and life should play out precisely as they envision it. This is an excruciatingly impossible demand, which results in the narcissist feeling dissatisfied and miserable much of the time. The demand for perfection leads the narcissist to complain and be constantly dissatisfied

Set Boundaries & Stick to Them

Boundaries are the limits of what you’ll do and what you’ll tolerate. For example, the narcissist may repeatedly borrow items from you and not return them, or ask you to lend them cash but never pay you back. Try setting a limit as to which items you are willing to lend in the future, or how much cash you are willing to lend. Narcissistic people might react badly to limit-setting. They will not easily accept that your needs are equally as important as their own. Remind yourself of the consequences of their past refusal to keep their promises.

They Lack Empathy.

Narcissists are preoccupied with their own feelings and needs, seem cold and detached when you need emotional support, and have difficulty making a sincere apology and accepting responsibility for any harm they cause.

Self-importance

Externally, narcissists tend to have high self-esteem, an inflated sense of self and extreme confidence. Other narcissistic traits include:

  • Having manipulative tendencies
  • Engaging in a whirlwind romance
  • Lacking compassion or a severe lack of empathy for others
  • Love bombing
  • An inability to maintain connections, such as with friends, colleagues and family members
  • Fragile ego
  • Toxic relationships

They Are Often Trying to Manipulate Others

They use others to meet their own needs, or to fulfill their own dreams. At times, this involves portraying themselves as a victim of unfair circumstances. This is done in an attempt to persuade you or guilt you into doing something that is not in your best interest but does serve their needs.

Great need for control

Manipulation and trying to grab control of everything is archetypal narcissist behavior. Since narcissists are continually disappointed with the imperfect way life unfolds, they want to do as much as possible to control it and mold it to their liking. They want and demand to be in control, and their sense of entitlement makes it seem logical to them that they should be in control of everything. Narcissists always have a storyline in mind about what each "character" in their interaction should be saying and doing

When to see a doctor

People with narcissistic personality disorder may not want to think that anything could be wrong, so they usually don't seek treatment. If you recognize aspects of your personality that are common to narcissistic personality disorder or you're feeling overwhelmed by sadness, consider reaching out to a trusted health care provider or mental health provider. Getting the right treatment can help make your life more rewarding and enjoyable.

Self-pity makes a narcissist feel like a hero.

So, feeling self-pity and playing the victim acts as a substitute for that lack of authentic self-worth. Narcissists may play the victim if they believe they gain something from making you feel guilty. Being the victim makes them the mistreated and misunderstood hero in a story that's all about them.
